Legal Assistant - Long Island, New York
Our client, a law firm specializing in landlord-tenant litigation, is seeking a Legal Assistant to join their Long Island, New York office.
The estimated salary range for this position is $50,000 - $70,000 (annually) and may vary depending on experience and other factors.
Overview:
This position will be responsible for managing specific client accounts and ensuring that cases, particularly new nonpayment proceedings, are entered accurately and followed through each step of the legal process in Housing Court. This role serves as a key liaison between the client and the firm, providing case updates, supporting attorneys, and ensuring smooth case progression.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience in landlord/tenant law and familiarity with Housing Court legal processes
- Experience in the NYC residential/legal market, specifically with Rent Stabilization Law and affordable housing programs (e.g., LIHTC and Project-Based Section 8) is preferred
- Familiarity with electronic filing in New York and New Jersey State Courts
- Ability to multitask and manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational, communication, writing, and time-management skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Strong typing and data entry skills
